Interview with FOX about Dragonball and Promotion

Ok, I was asked not to post this verbatim (so I summarized it all) so I ask of anyone that wishes to post this to email me and ask permission. But anyways, I did get another chance to speak with FOX and I asked a few questions regarding the promotion of the Dragonball movie. Some of which we pretty much speculated already, some slightly new information and some questions couldn’t be answered just yet.
1. When will promotion for the film Dragonball officially begin and what can we expect?
Promotion will truly begin when we launch the official trailer. Expect to see plenty of TV spots and action closer to the release. This is typical with any campaign. The fans will really feel the motion of the movie to begin by the end of the year and will be promoted at many targeted events in 2009.2. A Junior Novel and Video Game have been confirmed. Any other possible merchandise? Maybe a TV spin off or new comic series?
Currently could not be answered, hopefully they will get back to me on this.3. There has been a rumor going around that the sequal to this film will begin filming in the first quarter of 2009. Any truth to this?
There is no news on a sequal just yet. We tend to wait out and see how the initial film does and if sequals can be financed.4. How reliant is this film on visual effects? Is the majority of the money going towards CGI (such as cities, fight scenes, etc.)?
There will be a lot of amazing effects and yes.5. How would you compare the official trailer that releases later this year to the teaser that was shown during the licensing expo?
The actual trailer will be different. The teaser shown didn’t have enough ‘energy’ and did not fully reflect the film itself. The teaser was only inteded to show certain elements for L&M purposes and to introduce characters to trade people. This piece did not show the hardcore action that the movie will contain, but the full trailer will.8. Thank you for your time.

Goku is sitting sideways on a (non-moving) type of bike/buggy. I’m not sure if it is a three or four wheeler, but there are two wheels at the front, it looks all mean and futuristic and most importantly, it’s dusty and needs a good wash.
Goku is chomping into what looks to be a turkey drumstick. Either that or it’s a gigantic chicken drumstick. He’s wearing his grey-black jacket and dark trousers and it’s in a street setting.
In a fight scene with Goku it appears that Piccolo’s ribbed armor is strapped on around his sides. He has strange black leather gloves on and a long sword with a square, not pointed end. Around his collar is quite a bit of black braid and brocade.
In all the photos of Piccolo I’ve seen so far, he isn’t green. But in the details ones he looks like he has moss forming in his crevices, so he does have a green tinge.
Over his ribbed armor, Piccolo wears a full length hooded cloak, which is the dark browny crimson color as seen in the trailer. It has a rich texture, it looks very exotic and has rows of Sequined circles up the front panels. Extremely nice and billowy.
When Piccolo does swirly things it is revealed that he has striped panels of dark velvety pink at the back of his cloak.
Overall, I’d say he looks like a modern, darker version of Piccolo from the show. But with a bad case of black ear wax and a much better cloak.

James Wong and producers please listen!! I am unbelievably excited that you guys are acually making a live action DB film, it is like a dream come true. And for that I thank You!! BUT! I and many other people I have read comments from would really appriciate it if you change how the characters look. Examples, Piccolo is green and has Antennas!!! You made piccolo like a pail, PAIL green and took away his antennas, WHY DO THAT! to be honest with you piccolo looks a little similar to Frieza! Master Roshi dosn’t even have hair, and has a long white beard!! You have made Roshi look a lot yonger than he should appear!! Goku should have more muscle and longer hair, like twice as long than it is now, other than that, he looks great! Basically what I am trying to say is keep everything as close to the anime series as possible. The only difference, it’s live action, that’s it!!!! When you make sequeals, which you must because you have already started the story, and make Goku a Super Saiyan be sure to make the hair long, tall, spikey, and yellow!! and must turn Super Saiyan for the first time during the battle with Frieza when Frieza kills Goku’s best friend Krillin THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!! So your going to have to include Krillin in the sequeals at some point! PLEASE TAKE THESE THOUGHTS INTO CONSIDERATION!!! it will only help make the movie better, which brings more people to see it, which in the end puts more money in your packet.

Hey you dblegends…. you don’t know spanish, that’s ok, but if you are going to tell us something in our language be smart and don’t write without thinking. What do I mean? Well, let me translate what you said (this is a literal translation):

@ Translate – I can say the exact same for your webmaster Joker. Plus he flipped out because I wanted him to ask permission, whatever. I pretty much lost respect for Movieland since that.

Just a suggestion, but when you send something translated from one language to another it’s helpful to pass along what translator was used. By passing a message multiple times through the same translator a person can get a variation of the translated message that makes better sense. Translation is inexact and a machine translator will substitute words change words around and confuse the heck out of you in general.

Cast tyrese from transformers as piccolo. Give him a little more poblicity like will smith. But in the movie have his role geared more to the rap industry mentality with a sense of over confidence and anger towards the socity. And in the end have him save the world from goku in monkey form.
Goku should be casted as a little kid, and have bulma portrayed the same way as star wars queen amadala. Perfect setting. Take what you can from older sci fi movies, like dune original and present in terms of scenery, blade runner, have a good ambience that blends well with the story. Like the ending should be set in a jungle and piccolo should be laying in the canopy of a tree about to die with goku naked besides him with his tail in piccolos hand. And please please give some good well thought out dialog to piccolo to show that he has really had a lot of time to develop his anger to the world, while goku is a little nieve from his lack of experiance, yet always over spoken because he has a sense that his grandfather is always right with a mix of his sayian blood. And one scene I really want to see in a sequal would be two dark figures looking outside of a window sceanery of earth in anticipation of a historic battle, thier arms crossed and thier tails wiggling in excitement while they sit still in patiance. If you think this could really make a good script hit me up cause i have more. don’t overlook this instead try to get a visual of what i have typed here and apply it to what you have seen with the cartoon. Youll notice that it stays almost completely true to the show.
