Fox might scrap the Dragonball film

August 21, 2008 in Movie Rumors by avenged

UPDATE – FOX has reported that the statement was false and the movie is still scheduled to release in April 2009.

The following is a report from Film Junk

When it was first announced that a Dragonball movie was actually happening, a lot of people couldn’t comprehend how such an over-the-top, stylized animated series would possibly work in a live action setting. Then Stephen Chow came on board as a producer and suddenly it seemed like there might be hope. Of course, the movie was originally supposed to be ready for this summer, but Fox ended up pushing it back to April 2009. No official explanation was given, but some wondered if it might be the first sign of trouble. The fact that the movie also had no presence at the San Diego Comic Con only deepened suspicions.

This week we received word from an anonymous source that there may be some truth to this speculation after all. According to our tipster, the higher-ups at Fox are not too impressed the footage that has been shot thus far, and are seriously debating shutting the whole thing down. Now I have no idea if this is a real possibility or if the studio is just putting pressure on director James Wong to deliver, but the movie supposedly has a budget of over $100 million and I can understand them wanting to cut some losses while they still can. The thing is, if this is all true, it only makes me that much more interested to see the movie. If it it’s strange enough to scare the suits, it’s gotta be good, right? Are you looking forward to Dragonball?

I won’t be too worried about this truthfully. News has been slow as of late, a scare like this might either produce some more ‘real’ news or this story it might end up being true. So, what do you guys think about this? A publicity stunt? An actual threat? Comment.

Another Dragonball Trailer Leaked

August 12, 2008 in Movie Rumors by avenged

Ok, someone has leaked yet another version of the supposed leaked Dragonball movie trailer. It is only 4 seconds long (yet again) and appears this one may have been taken via the television. The user who captured this claims it was in Japan. If it truly is real, then that could mean the film is already being promoted in Japan. Please note that this is only rumor, and is more than likely a fake.

The Dragonball Panel now open

August 9, 2008 in Events by avenged

The “Ultimate Dragonball Panel” is now open at Otakon. All updates, discussions, and news will be posted in this article.

7: 00 pm – The Dragonball panel is displayed.

Update : Sorry for the delay. The Dragonball panel is over, we will reveal the details shortly.

Update 2 : Reports from the panel have been delayed, but it seems nothing major occured. But we still have dozens of Anime Conventions to look forward to, a few of them occuring before the end of August. Will we see the Dragonball movie trailer? More than likely. But here are some reports from FUNimation during Otakon…

On Funimation’s calendar for the next month are the Season 6 “Cell Games Saga” Dragon Ball Z box. Sheehan described it as “seven minutes of uncut action” – then quickly corrected himself; of course, he meant to say “seven hundred.” September 16 will be the release date.

And if any of you cosplayers out there that attended this event would like to send in photos of your Dragonball styled costumes, go right ahead. We will display them in the soon to come ‘Fan Works’ section.
